Portrait of a Dragon

Had heaps of fun with these quick sketches and paint ups. Note I did not colour from greyscale, I simply did a lighting pass to see how I wanted it lit. Will do a full body one soon

Virtual Plein Air

My first attempt at a virtual plein air. These are bloody hard but really rewarding. Look out for more

Night of the Perigee Moon Cover

A Book cover I did about 8 months ago for 'Night of the Perigee Moon' by Juliet Jacka, the 2013 Tom Fitzgibbon Award winner. It was a real privilege to be able to do the cover for the book. I also got to do the chapter headings. Book is out next week (19th March, 2014) Go buy it :) . Oh and I did all the text and graphic layout design also, I will post another image with that too :)

Orc Scout Sketch

Just messing about playing with Jonas De Ro's Brushes and Bjorn Hurri's colour scheme. I am always sad when the final painting loses a lot of the charm of the original sketch. Something I want to work on

Student work from Concept Art Block Course

I finally got round to posting up some of my students work from the block course I taught at the end of 2013.Concept Art for Film.
It was a real privilege to be given the opportunity and freedom to develop the course and it's corresponding assignments. For the course we decided to bring back the immensely popular Gloaming Assignment which has the students design a character/creature from Johnny Fraser Allen's world of "The Gloaming" http://www.thegloamingtrilogy.com/ and model it in ZBrush. The second Assignment was Environment Design for Star Wars where we gave the students a choice of 4 planets from Star Wars Universe and they had to develop a scene using abstraction methods.
