Student work from Concept Art Block Course

I finally got round to posting up some of my students work from the block course I taught at the end of 2013.Concept Art for Film.
It was a real privilege to be given the opportunity and freedom to develop the course and it's corresponding assignments. For the course we decided to bring back the immensely popular Gloaming Assignment which has the students design a character/creature from Johnny Fraser Allen's world of "The Gloaming" http://www.thegloamingtrilogy.com/ and model it in ZBrush. The second Assignment was Environment Design for Star Wars where we gave the students a choice of 4 planets from Star Wars Universe and they had to develop a scene using abstraction methods.

I won a Teaching Award :)

Seeing as this has only been my first year of teaching I was pretty chuffed to have won a RATA Award at Massey University, alongside Mike McAuley and Donald Preston.

Here are some student examples from the Digital Illustration class I taught at Massey University, Wellington during the first semester of 2013. The first assignment was a movie poster and the second was Zbrush character design using Johnny Fraser Allen's Gloaming world as a base to design from.

This was the First time Zbrush had been used as an Assignment at Massey, it was a real privilage to be part of it and to have Johnny's incredible world to design from. Special thanks to Mike McAuley for putting the gears into motion for the Zbrush Assignment.

Heres something I did for my TAD course. Self port combining digital and traditional media. Started as 3 seperate pencil sketches on brown paper, overlayed into photoshop, then drawn over and enhance in photoshop and finally some light colour added in photoshop.
